Why regulated businesses are moving from desktop to web platforms

Security, control and cost, not just convenience.

SMH Global ServicesRiyadh · Dubai · Karachi

Desktop applications installed on individual machines were once the safe choice for banks and enterprises. Today they are often the riskier one: harder to patch, harder to monitor and harder to audit.

A well-built web platform centralises control. Updates reach every user at once; access is governed by roles and single sign-on; every action is logged in one place; and data stays in the data centre or cloud region you choose instead of on laptops.

Web platforms also change the economics. There is no per-machine installation, mobile and branch users get the same system, and new countries or entities can be added without new infrastructure.

The caveat is that web platforms must be engineered for security from the start: encryption, strong authentication, protection against common attacks and regular testing. That is the standard SMH Global applies to every platform it builds.
